With all the words in the English language, are explicit lyrics so often necessary? Let’s count…..there are roughly 171,146 words currently in use in the English language, according to the Oxford English Dictionary. If you turn on the radio or tune into the lyrics of many artists these days, you might think that the 25 or so lyrics (words/phrases) that are explicit, are the only words available to us…… Stay with me here…..I’m no prude but sometimes it’s a little hard and mind numbing to listen to an entire playlist of songs steeped in vulgarities…….let alone allow your little ones to listen………whoa…… I try to challenge my creativity to stray away from the 25 and shoot for the 171,146.
My hypnotic and melodic song F-words is an example of using my creativity and eluding the 25……you’ll feel me. This song is tethered to my vision…….reach the hurting to musically heal the human race…..
Let’s face it. Parenting isn’t easy and growing up isn’t easy either. These days parents have to wade through a ton of content in order to determine what is right for their kids. Again, I ask, with all the words in the English language, are explicit lyrics so often necessary? Kids don’t have a filter. Their minds are amazingly impressionable because they haven’t learned how to judge what’s right or wrong yet. If the music industry is going to continue using the language many deem inappropriate, shouldn’t they be mindful of what they’re putting out there and how it affects the minds of kids? The words most parents don’t want their kids hearing can be easily replaced by more appropriate ones. This is the way forward if we want our children exposed to (OQM) only quality material.
OQM is what I have to offer you in F-words and all of my music…….you can rest assured of that. While there is the argument that we can not infringe upon an artist’s art……..I also want to protect my ears, heart, and mind, and the ears, hearts, and minds of my family, friends and all the many impressionable children who soak up what they hear like a sponge. Just think of the increasing number of instances where you’ve been listening to a song and, all of a sudden you get slapped in the face with explicit lyrics. This happens so often that it’s happening almost every time I listen to music. And then when I talk about it with people, they say they experience this all the time too. Whatever happened to “I never want to hear some words that I can’t say to my grandma………”
We have become slaves to explicit lyrics. Allow F-words to free your ears, heart, and mind for a little less than 3 and a half minutes…….. With this song, I’m taking aim at explicit lyrics with wordplay that will satisfy and soothe your senses. Don’t be deceived by the title…….
I digress……..I’m not saying that explicit lyrics are all the artists’ fault, but there has to be a way that we can educate ourselves on how to keep these things from getting in our ears. Explicit lyrics are a hotly debated issue, but I think there’s no debate that explicit lyrics are not appropriate to be sung (or rapped) in front of impressionable youth. (F-words alert) Here’s some foodfor thought…….taking a step back, perhaps artists, including myself, need to stretch our vocabulary a little more and get creative with the 171,146 words at our disposal. Be encouraged……
